Backups and recovery
Find the tools for protecting and recovering local work.
Find your library and recovery tools
- Open Settings from the library switcher. On Mac, you can also press Command+comma.
- Choose Library & Recovery under Current library.
- Under Portable library, check the location of the active library. Choose Reveal to show it in Finder or File Explorer.
Create a restore point
Automatic restore points are created periodically as you work. The Backups section shows the Snapshot interval in minutes.
- Choose Create restore point in Library & Recovery to save the current library state.
- Choose Open Recovery Center.
- Check the newest entry under Restore points. Each entry shows its date and document count.
Restore an earlier library state
Restoring a restore point replaces the current library contents, rather than recovering only one document. Ligature creates a safety restore point before the replacement.
- In Recovery center, find the restore point by date and document count.
- Choose Restore on that entry.
- Read the confirmation. Choose Restore library only when you want to replace the current library with that state.
Review preserved files and drafts
Recovery center separates Restore points, Recovered drafts, and Preserved files. Review a preserved file before dismissing it. Sync conflicts offer Keep version; preserved files also have Reveal and Export controls. Dismiss a copy only after you know you no longer need it.
Keep an independent backup
Restore points and Sync do not replace an independent backup. Keep a separate backup of the entire library, and keep current files before replacing anything from an older copy.
