The service

Ligature is a local-first desktop writing app. The app is free. You can keep a library on your computer without an account.

The website at useligature.com is where you download the app, read about it, create an account, and subscribe to Sync. These terms apply to the app, the website, and Sync.

Your library

The library on your device is yours. That includes your documents and the rest of what you write in the app. These terms do not give Ligature ownership of that library.

The Ligature name, the app, and the website stay with Ligature. These terms let you use them. They do not sell you the software.

Accounts

An account is optional. You need one to use Sync. Sign-in, sign-up, and account settings are provided by Clerk. You are responsible for activity under your account.

Sync

Sync is optional and paid. The app works without it. When you turn Sync on, encrypted sync copies your library so you can use it on more devices.

Plans are listed on the pricing page and in your account. Billing is handled by Clerk. If a subscription is not active, Sync can stop. The library already on your computer stays there.

You can cancel Sync from your account. Canceling Sync does not delete the library on your device.

Acceptable use

Use the app, the website, and Sync for your own writing. Do not use them to break the law, to disrupt the service, to access another person’s account, or to resell Sync.

We may refuse or end access to an account or to Sync if you break these terms. Ending Sync does not remove the library stored on your computer.

Public beta

Ligature is in public beta. The app, the website, and Sync can change, break, or be interrupted. Keep your own copies of work you cannot replace. The copy on your computer is the one you control.

To the extent the law allows, Ligature is not liable for lost writing or other indirect damages from the app, the website, or Sync. These terms do not limit liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

Changes

We may update these terms. The effective date at the top of this page will change when we do. If you keep using the app, the website, or Sync after that date, the updated terms apply.
